Depeche Mode began their 'Tour of the Universe’ on May 10th in Israel and finish the first European leg on July 12th in Spain. On this leg they were due to play 36 dates, featuring 26 massive stadium shows and a London show at the O2 Arena which sold out in less than an hour. Unfortunately, Dave Gahan was taken ill before the second show in Athens and was diagnosed as having a severe bout of gastroenteritis which regretfully forced the band to cancel a number of upcoming shows. While in hospital, further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumour in Dave’s bladder, which has since been successfully removed. Following Dave's recovery the tour restarted in Leipzig on June 8th to a glorious reception from fans and critics. Depeche's 23-date North American tour starts on July 24th in Toronto before finishing in Florida on September 5th and includes a headline slot at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago on the weekend of August 7th. Following a month off to recharge the band will then travel to Mexico and on to South America, where they will play a number of highly anticipated shows in Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. The tour then heads back to Europe where Depeche will commence with another string of dates,including a 5 U.K dates with two shows at London's O2 arena. At the end of December the band will take a short break, and the tour then kicks off again at the start of 2010 with another series of European dates, concluding with shows in the Russian cities of St.Petersburg and Moscow.
Depeche Mode's eagerly anticipated 12th studio album ‘Sounds of the Universe’ was released on April 20th and includes the glorious singles ‘Wrong’ and 'Peace'. The stark video for ‘Wrong’ was directed by Patrick Daughters who has previously worked with Liars, Kings of Leon and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Madonna's phenomenally successful 'Sticky & Sweet Tour', already the #1 Biggest Grossing Tour in history for a solo artist, will embark on another series of shows beginning July 4th in London at the O2 Arena and at Manchester’s MEN Arena on July 7th. Stops will include appearances in never before played markets such as Werchter Belgium, Marseille France, Hamburg Germany, Oslo Norway, Helsinki Finland, Tallinn Estonia, Ljubljana Slovenia as well as stops in Romania, Hungary, Serbia and Bulgarian. Produced by Live Nation Global Touring, U2 360° will visit 14 cities across Europe including dates in Milan, Gothenburg, Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Dublin, Chorzow, Berlin, Gelsenkirchen, London, Sheffield and Glasgow before finishing at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 22nd August. The European tour will be followed by dates in North America beginning at Chicago’s Soldier Field on September 12th, 2009.
Long-time U2 Show Director Willie Williams has worked again with architect Mark Fisher (ZooTV, PopMart, Elevation and Vertigo), to create an innovative 360˚ design which affords an unobstructed view for the audience. U2 360° also marks the first time a band has toured in stadiums with such a unique and original structure (which can be viewed at U2.com).

With 85 percent of the tickets priced at less than $95.00, general admission floor tickets priced at $55.00 and at least 10,000 tickets at every venue priced at the $30.00 price range, we have worked very hard to ensure that U2 fans can purchase a great priced ticket with a guaranteed great view,” says U2’s manager Paul McGuinness.
